Structural and interior works are progressing at the West Kowloon Terminus, the Hong Kong station of the Express Rail Link. Once completed, the Express Rail Link will connect Hong Kong to Shenzhen and Guangzhou in China over a stretch of 142 kilometres at dramatically reduced travel times – 14-23 minutes to Shenzhen and 48 minutes to Guangzhou. The Hong Kong side will consist of 26 kilometres of underground railway. The station will be located between the Kowloon and Austin MTR stations. It will be linked via footbridges and subways. The project is targeted to be completed by the third quarter of 2018, according to the Highways Department of The Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
